Structured breeding to improve the stock a farm works with.

Overview

About this project

A breeding programme is how a farm stops buying its performance and starts producing it. Without selection and records, herds drift and the same problems reappear in every generation.

This work covered structured livestock breeding: selecting breeding stock, planning matings, keeping the records that make selection meaningful, and managing the young stock that result.

Scope of work

  • Breeding stock selection
  • Mating plan and breeding calendar
  • Pedigree and performance records
  • Young stock management
  • Herd improvement review
